Re: “I read Atlas Shrugged in 1965 when I was in the 10th grade.”
I think I was 14. It was my third attempt. I thought the first fifty pages were insanely dull, but then I couldn't put it down. I can hardly believe today that I ever found it dull. I just finished Chapter 1 (23 pages) and am chomping at the bit to get back to it. What an outstanding book! It's been at least 30 years since the last time I read it, and it feels like a reunion of friends who've been away.

Chapter One introduces us to:
• Eddie Willers – Special Assistant to Dagny.
• James Taggart, president of Taggart Transcontinental.
• Orren Boyle, Associated Steel – a friend of James’s.
• Ellis Wyatt, Wyatt Oil.
• Dagny Taggart, the Vice-President in Charge of Operation at Taggart Transcontinental.
• Richard Hallis, composer
• Owen Kellogg, a competent young engineer Dagny thinks highly of.
• And, of course, John Galt. Who is John Galt? Chapter One doesn't say.

Atlas Shrugged had a life changing effect on me, and I wish I could get every teenager in the country to read it. We'd all benefit from that.

I'd continue but I don't want to spoil it. If you've never read this book, buy yourself a copy asap. $4.19 in paperback over on ABEBOOKS.com (which sells used books), and shipping is free. Hardback will run you six dollars more.

Night sky just several miles offshore is amazing, just with the naked eye. Then look thru a pair of simple binoculars and the space between those stars is filled in with hundreds of other stars. Just Within that narrow field of view. Really cool.

I read Atlas Shrugged in 1965 when I was in the 10th grade. In government class! I went to a prep school for a few years.
Book probably be banned in a public school..
