From what I hear, Russia is scraping the bottom of the barrel to find tanks. And having problems with a lack of spare parts and a lack of 'modern fire control systems' for them.
But most Russian tanks also have an auto-loader for the main gun. And it requires having ammo loose inside the crew compartment to keep the thing loaded. When a modern 'top attack' anti-tank missile does its thing and it sets off the ammo in the turret the result is somewhat spectacular. The turret gets blown completely off the tank.
(One of the reasons the Ukrainians have been having a field day blowing out Russian tanks.)
