...Ukraine cannot drive Russia out for the same reason that Afghanistan could not drive Russia out.

The cost of sanctions? Pretty small for us. We don't get a whole lot from Russia.

The cost to Europe would be higher. They'd need to pay more for fuel. Some might have to beef up their defenses. That's expensive but it's what's expected of them anyway.

That's about it.

The cost to Ukraine would have been a whole lot LESS if this had been the approach up front. Today it wouldn't make much of a difference.

War, ribit, is a LAST resort. Not the first resort we've made it these last eighty years.
