Re: “Anybody want to start making a list of EV Problems?

1.) If it gets too cold they don't work and might not take a charge.
2.) If a hurricane douses it with salt water it might catch on fire.

Any more?”
3) EVs take a very long time to charge. This is an inconvenience for drivers.
4) EVs are expensive. If government subsidies are ever reduced, they will be still more expensive.
5) EVs can’t drive as far on a single ‘charge’ as a combustion-engine vehicle.
6) Finding a charging station for an EV is sometimes very difficult.
7) Driving with the heater on significantly reduces the distance that a fully-charged EV can travel. (And I assume the same is true for A/C.)
8 ) The energy infrastructure to support widespread ownership of EVs does not exist.
9) It takes special training to work on an EV. Finding a mechanic outside of a dealership is challenging.
10) A mechanic who makes a mistake with an EV can electrocute himself.
11) The resale value of an EV falls much more rapidly than for a comparable combustion-engine vehicle.
12) If your combustion-engine vehicle runs out of gas, you need to get a can of gas. If your EV's battery gets drained, you need a tow truck.
13) A typical gas station might be 0.1 acres in size, but parking places are needed for EVs… so figure on an acre or more per charging station. What will cities do?

The Push to Transition to Electric Vehicles Brings a Major Concern to the Forefront

When Hurricane Idalia made its way through Florida last year, firefighters braced themselves to deal with a challenge entirely different from the issues they typically face with storm clean-up. Electric vehicles whose batteries become damaged from saltwater during a storm surge catch on fire—a phenomenon that can occur days or even weeks after the initial damage. Nearly two dozen EVs ignited after Hurricane Ian, so officials in the state did their best to warn residents to move them to higher grounds. After all, it’s not just a threat to the vehicle. A home that survived Ian ended up burning to the ground later from an EV parked in the garage that caught on fire, which affected the neighbor’s house, too.

Anybody want to start making a list of EV Problems?

1.) If it gets too cold they don't work and might not take a charge.

2.) If a hurricane douses it with salt water it might catch on fire.

Any more?
