Well said, ribit. Short and to the point.
I was going to say roughly the same thing - but with an excess of verbage.
The infamous 'Tet offensive' ... was a MASSIVE win by US Forces, stomping the crap out of the North Viets.
We won CONTINUOUSLY in many, many battles.
The North Viets were within a week of unconditional surrender when the so-called peace talks with Kissinger in Paris were going on. We had them on their knees with the bombing of their war machine in Hanoi - and congress, russian protestors on USA campuses, and the evening news with Walter Crank-case and Ho-Chi-Minh Wallace scuttled that avenue of total victory.
I hold Kissinger very responsible for the completely fubarred withdrawal of our troops from South Vietnam.
Replying to at least two claims that the 'domino theory' was 'proven wrong' - I disagree. History shows that most of that theory was spot on correct after our withdrawal from South Vietnam. Over one million Montagnards were killed in a mass genocide. Over three million (3.5) Cambodians (out of a population of 5 mil) were killed by the COMMUNIST Pol Pot (with a ton of help from the USSR) which was continuously denied by our corrupt propaganda trifecta (NBC,ABC,CBS) until the movie "The Killing Fields" came out and documented what had happened. One can look at the 'history' of the rest of SE Asia for more domino evidence - Sumatra, Myanmar, Philippines, Indonesia, etc .... Not pretty what happened in Any of those countries.
