Professor,

no offense, but yer still young.... Enjoy being that way as long as ya can.. I take it you did not get the privilege of being drafted?

No finer vacation time than basking in the humidity and sun in between monsoons while being simmered in the heat there.
They got more snakes than we got ants. Half of em will kill ya.

Sorry ya missed out on all the fun there. What I remember was trying to sell my house so I could move close to Grumman's manufacturing plant only the interest rates on mortgages were in the 20's during the Carter disaster. I couldn't sell my home and I bloody well could not afford the high interest on a new mortgage either.
It was just as well. We still live in the house I designed and helped to build and raised our children from newborns to adults. Lots of memories here.

It was a different time and in some respects a simpler time. I was working on my engineering degrees then.

I liked things when they were less obvious stealing and cheating us.. lol!!!!

>> Price and wage controls NEVER work ...

Try a little closer to home.

Remember the single person responsible for isolating Taiwan, for the interest rates (on homes) going to the stratosphere, for inflation going to over 20%, for eliminating the gold standard. Add in the 'Wage and Price Controls' coming from the WH of the USA. Worse than present day Californication and Newsom.

Nope, wasn't Jimmy Carter responsible for all that.

It was RMN - Richard Millhouse Nixon. He should have been impeached for the Wage and Price Controls - not for the Watergate playground and distraction. No, he wasn't impeached - BUT remember also that Spiro Agnew had to resign from the VP because he was indicted and convicted on criminal charges. So much for the "can't indict a sitting president" - they did it to a VICE President, they can do it to a President.

We can also lay the complete FUBAR withdrawal from South Vietnam solely at the feet of Nixon and Kissinger - just like Brandon and Afghanistan, well .... South Vietnam withdrawal was worse.

Yeah, I remember ALL that, very clearly. And I'm only 68.

Oh, and minimum wage was 0.75 per hour, and gas was in the 0.15 to 0.18 range. I worked at an on-base Gas Station at Webb AFB, Tx providing the now defunct 'full service' aspect of fill-er-up and check the tires.
