Oh, I fully comprehend the author's point ... and I agree ... but, then again, I don't want them living with me ... they have their own lives to lead. However, even though they aren't under your roof any longer, they are still YOURS to continue to love and bond with, of course. And then, there's the grandkids that come along ...

I am in semi-retirement. I no longer go into an office. I work on my own clients at my home office. So, I still have to keep on top of my game and actually work from time to time - especially this time of the year. My wife is pushing me to jettison most of my client base and go into full retirement. I must admit ... with each passing year of dealing with the IRS and various state tax departments ... that option is looking better and better.

Re: “I understand the intention, here, but no ... they are ALWAYS yours ... never stop loving them and spending as much time as possible with them. ”
My son went off to college six years ago and has four to go. He's only rarely come to visit - for very good reasons like summer school and summer internships. But I don't know if he'll ever want to come here to live. He likes a social life and that's one thing New Hampshire is lacking. My bet is that he'll end up somewhere east of the Mississippi but probably not in casual driving distance.

I think the author's point is that our kids will never be children again. They'll never again be living at home. (clo has somehow dodged this problem with her gem of a son. He's, what? Fifty-two now? LOL. Have you noticed how often she talks about him on her board? But she loves having him there. I bet he rubs her feet every day and does her hair.) Our children will never again be taking up significant amounts of our time. Therefore, we need to find new ways to entertain ourselves.

That's easy for me. How about for you guys? Have any of you found retirement boring?
