I imagine that has as much to do with where in Ohio you live as it does with the amount of taxes you pay. According to the Ohio Fire Marshal's office, the majority of fire departments in Ohio are staffed by volunteers, and the average age of these volunteers is 54 years old.

If I wanted to live in "The Big City," I expect I'd have the same sort of response times and skilled personnel as you've got in Ohio. But municipal taxes would go way up, and the advantages of living nearly tax-free (I've still got property taxes) would go away.

BTW, New Hampshire might be #2 in low taxes, but it's generally ranked #1 in freedom. It's a great place to live if you aren't a government dependent like the Pffarters.

Looks like New Hampshire is second place on the Lowest tax burden on its citizens..

In the immortal words of the last knight in the movie with HArrison Ford in that cave scene with the Holy Grail
and the last living Knight to be the protector of it,

"You chose WISELY"

as opposed to people living in ZOO York HE said "You chose POORLY".

I suppose people get accustomed to living where they do and just accept the taxes they pay as normal. But if ya want services ya cannot provide yerself they cost money to operate. Like Life Squads and Fire Departments and firefighters and Police for example..

I am grateful we have a highly skilled and well equipped emergency services in my township and I am no more than a quarter mile from them.

They have been here to fetch me more than once when I could not move on my own and was unconscious. Waking up in a hospital bed in a room..

No memory of going thru emergency or talking to anyone..

SO, some taxes are very worthwhile.. Not all but they are necessary..
