Re: “how much cash would be a good amount at keep at home?

A few thousand dollars in smaller bills? 20's, ten's and fives?”
It would vary, perhaps by where you live.

Think about the worst disaster that might affect you and that WOULDN'T spell the end of the United States. How long might the electricity be out? You'd want enough cash to weather whatever that period might be.

As we saw in 2005, New Orleans can go without power for a month or more. Where you live, I doubt the grid could fail for that long. Maybe if a series of bad blizzards hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back.

A war could warrant having even more money. If China invaded the U.S. and your state fell to it, you'd want cash. Your stash might enable you to buy your family passage back to an American state. But I think precious metal would work even better.

SO

how much cash would be a good amount at keep at home?

A few thousand dollars in smaller bills? 20's, ten's and fives?

The amount was not discussed in the article...
