They're still alive and slightly bigger. We have about 10 plants that are majority Roma and a couple of Big Boys.

I just discovered a few days ago that if ya spray the lawn with weed and grass killer and ya thinks ya is only spraying some ground ivy, the entire patch ya sprayed turns dead. Brown dead. While I like the Ivy being killed I did not want the grass to be killed.

Grrrrrrrrr. Now I have to re-seed and get a different weed killer. I HATE ground ivy.. And if ya don't get rid of it ta will have an entire yard full. This stuff crept over here from the untaken care of yard next door.

Re: “I should have all of my plums in the ground by Tuesday.”A scant 13 days after planting 32 "twigs," 29 have either leaves or green buds. I'm pleased. As I told my wife, the plum tree experiment would be a success in my mind if just five live. Of course, there's a long way to go (4 to 6 years for fruit), but my little orchard is off to a good start.

On the down side, my tomato plants are having a rough time of it. The blame may be twofold: First, the potting soil I grew them in is several years old. Many of the plants germinated but then failed to get more than a couple of inches tall. In past years, they'd have all been 4 to 6 inches by now. Second, I used marijuana "grow lights" that I found at yard sales. I think that the light may be too intense for tomatoes. That's odd since I used to do well with my tomatoes in Sacramento - where the summer sun is relentless. But I've never had this kind of a problem with yellow leaves. Yellow usually means too much water, but I don't think it's that. I'm suspicious of the light.

I don't like putting tomatoes in the ground while they're still so small, but there's not much choice. In addition to their growth being stalled, it's also getting late in the season.

How are you coming with your Romas, micro?
