Re: “You would do well to spend time SEARCHING the Scriptures...”
Thanks, micro! It is good to have someone knowledgeable here who can explain aspects of the Bible that I find confusing. You'd have been a good teacher! However, I don't see myself searching the Scriptures for answers. First and foremost, it's because I don't trust them. There is a loss of fidelity in any document that has passed through the hands of man (assembled, translated, edited, copied, etc.) and the Bible has undergone this process countless times. In fact, there are over nine hundred versions of the Bible in existence today. What makes one better than any other? Is one of them pure? I doubt it, but even if so, I'll never know which one. If the Bible was once pure, it is now sullied.

Second, all spiritual understanding hinges on the linearity of time, of which I have become a skeptic. If time is not linear, then everything we think we know about our lives and destinies is wrong, not just by a little but by so vast an expanse as to not be worth considering. God is infinitely complex. Life is comparatively simple. And that's where my desire to search Scriptures for answers hangs up. It, beyond any doubt, considers life to be a birth-to-death series of events, and I don't think that it is.
Re: “He does not LIE nor play tricks on us. An attribute of GOD is that HE CANNOT LIE. It is impossible due to HIS very NATURE that it is impossible for HIM to Lie.”I agree. God is Truth, and Truth does not lie. However, during the night I came across a relevant Biblical passage that reinforces my conclusion that not everything in the Bible meets my standard for literal truth.

Genesis 3:3 (and also, using slightly different language, Genesis 2:15): 'The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

Eve did eat the fruit, and so did Adam. Neither died; not for hundreds of years, anyway, and I'm sure that's not what God meant when he issued His dire warning. Eve didn't think he meant "in hundreds of years," and I don't think God was playing word games - or "tricks," as you put it. So what's the explanation? God doesn't lie. But neither does he couch his true meaning behind a wall of clever phraseology. That's a human gimmick.

Any thoughts on this?

GM De!

You are not alone in the population of Biblical skeptics and "cherry pickers" of certain passages. One cannot read scripture with any understanding without reading the entire contexts which means long before ya get to a verse and after as well. Then compare it to the contexts before it and after.

I can provide a LIST of the Translators by "company" of the most scholarly Latin and Greek professors in the world who were the translators of the ancient Hebrew and Greeks texts.. WHEN you know how we got the English language version from the Hebrew and Greek its accuracy is not questionalble.

Let me give you an OLD TESTAMENT Verse written by GOD'S Chosen Servant DAVID in Psalms, chapter 6 and verse 7.

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

ALL of recorded WORDS of GOD and NON-recorded Words of GOD are PURE and TRUE. Many are commands. ALL are for OUR Benefit.

He does not LIE nor play tricks on us. An attribute of GOD is that HE CANNOT LIE. It is impossible due to HIS very NATURE that it is impossible for HIM to Lie.

HE gave to us instructions recorded and preserved thru HIS servants the Prophets and Apostles and chosen Men after looking upon their hearts, like David, Solomon for example.

Believe me when I tell you that you are not the only person I have known who has difficulty with accepting Biblical truth and inerrancy of the Scriptures.

This has been a long time game played for centuries back to the 1500's by those seeking to discredit the scriptures and change them.

The AUTHOR of the BIBLE is found right here in
Psalm 68:11

The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

2 Peter 1: 21 says this regarding the origins of the Scriptures:

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

You would do well to spend time SEARCHING the Scriptures for in them you will find truth and Life through faith in the ONE who not only gave those Words to HIS servants to record, but for all of mankind to have so that they may KNOW what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of GOD for all people". Romans 12 :2

Just a couple things to consider.
