...let us go back to Schrodinger's cat. All sealed up in a box with no way to know if it is alive or dead. Is it neither? Is it both? As long as there is no "consciousness" to observe, the answer is illusive and irrelevant.

Re: “what does consciousness means in this little dot in space we inhabit”

You've actually asked an intelligent question. You should do it more often.

While nobody has the answer, it is certain to be rooted in the bizarre relationship consciousness has with time. In all the universe, the *only* phenomenon that requires the process we perceive as time is consciousness.

You might not get what I'm saying at first, but mull it over. It's true. Everything else in the universe could as easily be part of a very large, static mural. If you're up on things, you're probably aware that every large mechanism in physics plays a vital role in the universe's operation. The universe would fail without quarks... light.... gravity... strong force... weak force... electromagnetism, dark matter, dark energy, space-time, matter. What does time do? It facilitates consciousness. What does consciousness do? My hunch is that it facilitates the processing and communication of information.

Roger Penrose, who is probably the most famous physicist alive today, believes that consciousness is a tie between our universe and whatever lies "outside" of it. He further posits that the effort to create Artificial Intelligence will ultimately be unsuccessful - because human engineers we will never have the means to establish such a tie except via biology.

I just thought I'd throw that out to you since I don't expect any of your type are capable of responding to such a challenging question.
