'Eternal' and 'Everlasting' are interesting terms. Much like 'Infinity'.

I think I might define 'Eternal' as having no beginning or end. And 'Everlasting' as having a Beginning but no end.

>>>
www.merriam-webster.com › dictionary › eternal
Eternal means having infinite duration, everlasting, or relating to eternity.
>>>
www.dictionary.com › browse › everlasting
Everlasting definition: lasting forever; eternal.
>>>

I personally think the Universe is Eternal. If one could travel back in time, one would never find a beginning and if one could travel forward in time one would never find an end.

But that's just me.

mt,

Re: “DE, is it really the Adam and Eve story that 'bugs you the most' - or is it the very first sentence in the Bible ?”
The Adam and Eve tale doesn't bug me most. Nothing bugs me most. I'm not a one-trick pony so easily classified. If you check my post, you'll find that the word "most" is not in it. I'll just say that the Adam and Eve parable DOES bug me. Whether or not the snake lied about the fruit rendering Adam and Eve god-like, it deserves principle credit for getting mankind out of Eden. Without its help, A&E would never have escaped a boring, pet-like, sedated, ignorant and very limited existence. So it was a good thing even if the snake lied and said they would be God-like. Humans, un-God-like as they are, are still better than children. You obviously have a very different take - which I appreciate and encourage you to explain. But I think an eternity in Eden (Did Adam and Eve age while there? I don't think the Bible says, though their agelessness is implied.) would have sucked. It would have been the worst kind of life sentence. What goes through my mind is... what was God thinking by doing that to his children?

In any case, I take it with a grain of salt. The Bible, particularly the Old Testament, is full of parables. They teach lessons, some literal and some allegorical.

Your question about the Bible's first sentence is off-topic but, to answer, I'm not bothered by it. The universe is here. That's self evident. Nobody intelligent would argue otherwise. Looking at it now, I do wonder about the word "beginning." Ask micro to explain the difference between "eternal" and "everlasting" to understand why the concept of a "beginning" is flawed.
