I suspect most people just stick with the religion of their birth, even if something else would be a better fit. OCU is a great example. He was born a Catholic. He doesn't support or adhere to some of his church's key doctrines. He thinks that's just fine and has no plan to change. (Actually, he doesn't "think" about it at all. I should say he "feels" it's just fine.)

Note that for billions of people on this planet, religion is not a choice. They aren't allowed to adopt or change religions. For the majority of humanity, one's religion is therefore an accident of birth.
