Apparently, Fani Willis' ... yeah, THAT Fani Willis ... office is prosecuting some rappers under the organized crime (RICO) statutes. The sitting judge is Ural D. Glanville, Chief Judge of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit and Superior Court of Fulton County. There is a witness named Kenneth Copeland that the prosecution wants to testify, but Copeland is invoking his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination. The prosecution wants to give Copeland immunity so as to force him to testify. An exclusive meeting was held in the judge's chambers to address these issues regarding Copeland's testimony that included only the judge, the prosecutorial team, Copeland, and Copeland's attorney. Under the Georgia Code of Judicial Conduct, such ex parte communications without the defense team being present can only occur under very limited circumstances, and even if the defense is legitimately prevented from attending such a meeting, the judge is duty bound to disclose that such a meeting has taken place to the defense, which he did not do.

So, the lead defense attorney, Brian Steel, somehow finds out through other means that this secret meeting has occurred in the judge's chambers. In court, Steel confronts the judge about this secret meeting and asks why he was not at least informed of the meeting. The judge asks Steel to divulge who gave him the information about the secret meeting and Steel declined to give him that information. So, the judge holds Steel in contempt, has him arrested, pulled out of the courtroom, and taken into custody. The judge sentenced him to ten weekends (20 days) in jail.

I don't know what these defendants are specifically accused of doing and I don't know if they are guilty or not, BUT there is something really rotten about the Fulton County, GA judicial system.
