Today's auction pickup included • An average Meade refractor telescope ($11), • Three bookcases one of which was big and cheaply made and two four-footers that are wider at the base than the top and with great workmanship but PAINTED (why?????) ($21), • Bar-related items including signs and cork screws ($3), and • 33 full-size cinder blocks and 4 smaller cinder blocks and 5 bricks ($9).

Moving the cinder blocks was a bear of a job. I only had a dolly and we had to park down the street from the house. The worst part was that they were in a basement with a 6' ceiling and overhead pipes that frequently dropped the height to 5'. Carrying that many cinder blocks while stooped over is murder on the back, lemme tell you! Naturally, the basement exit was up stairs leading into the back yard. Fortunately, in New Hampshire, people don't usually have fences. Rolling the dolly across a dry lawn wasn't bad at all. An hour later, it would have been.

We caught a lucky break on the weather. The rain didn't start until the drive home when it came down buckets. While I was working, no rain. It was nice and cool - though you wouldn't have thought it to look at me! Mr. Green

Everything is still outside, either in the truck bed (it has a shell) or on the flat bed trailer. We were just glad to get home, then ran for the house. A pickup I naively thought would take 2½ hours took 5. Surprisingly, after dinner and napping, I feel pretty good. I wasn't sure I'd be able to stand up!
