Re: “...Ukraine was a hostage.”
So was Russia.

People forget, but Lenin and Trotsky were not sent to Russia to overthrow the anti-Semitic Tsar. Their assignment... financed by Wall Street... was to overthrow the revolution of March, 1917 which had already ousted the Tsar and instilled the first democratic society in Russian history. Lenin and Trotsky succeeded in a nearly bloodless coup. Russians went to sleep as free people one night and woke in the morning to find that the Bolsheviks had nationalized, taken control and established all kinds of things - but continued supporting their allies: Rockefeller’s bank, Westinghouse, individuals tied to Morgan, etc. U.S. industrialists made a fortune assisting them with the overthrow.

In the long run, it didn't really go the way they expected.

My point is that the Russians didn't want the Soviet Union either. It was forced on them, in large part via the assistance of western countries including the U.S.

But that is all ancient history, long forgotten by most people. I suggest you do the same with your memories of the Soviet Union. Unlike China, the U.S.S.R. is *gone*.
