Our son is still without power and the cellphone systems in the area are operating under emergency conditions, meaning that only voice services are working. No texting and no internet access. He's asked me to check the CenterPoint Energy website as they're the organization which manages most of the Texas grid. They report that nearly 1.8 million customer are still without power as of 9:30am(PDT) (they update the numbers every five-minutes). They indicate that 800,000 customers have been restored in the past 24 hours. We talked to our son a couple of minutes ago and he was on his way to check on the three restaurants in the area that he's responsible for. Two of them are without power and he has to evaluate if their emergency procedures are holding-up enough to prevent loss of their food inventories. They loaded up their coolers with ice before the storm hit and as long as it hasn't melted yet, they should be OK. But if they go another 24-hours, they'll probably lose everything in this heat. They're predicting temps in the mid-90's for the next several days.
