"No offense to Texas as a whole but seems like those utilities in Texas aren't the sharpest knives in the drawers..."

Nah, my friend ... there are only three grids in the U.S. and Texas has its own ... and we like it that way, just fine. It is a highly reliable grid, especially given the brutal summers that we regularly endure. The Feds do everything they can to compromise our grid by forcing us to close down perfectly good plants and move towards far more unreliable "green energy" sources, but we're generating plenty of power in spite of them. In fact, when California experiences power shortages, to whom do you think they go begging for more power, eh? Yeah ... us.

Yeah, at the height of every summer, they tell us to conserve power usage during the afternoons and early evenings, but we always make it through - even with an ever exploding population. Yep, occasional disasters, like hurricanes, will cause problems, but you cannot control the weather and we always manage to get back up and running, pretty quickly. The biggest weather disaster of late was the winter ice storm of 2021 ... something that was so extremely rare, we were caught unprepared for its severity and duration. That was a once-in-one-hundred-year occurrence, but we are better prepared for that, now.

Should we and can we always be improving and upgrading our grid? Absolutely, but we seriously don't have too much to complain about here in Texas - especially if the Feds will quit interfering. If they don't want to give Houston any available funds for improving their system against hurricanes, then the Feds need to simply get the hell out of our way, period ... AND not bitch about gasoline prices when our refineries get temporarily knocked offline.

I do not see how the grant application could be denied or shouhld be denied either for Houston's grid to be improved and made more "weather" resistant.

What I do NOT understand is why would a city that lies directly in the path of many weather events coming on shore from the GULF not have been a tad more deep in thought about the amount of strong winds and weather activities that it would be subject to?

It seems like there wasn't very much thought put into this to begin with..

I have nothing against Houston or any other cities that are subject to major weather events but they all should have known power lines are always going to be an issue above ground hanging in the air when yearly strong storms come ashore and ravage them time after time after time..

We're always replacing the same things for the same events and reasons.

No offense to Texas as a whole but seems like those utilities in Texas aren't the sharpest knives in the drawers...

I mean, the same thing happens almost year after year after year.....

What's the definition of insanity again please?

MAybe some better thought should be put into this. Just my thoughts.. No offense to the cities affected by natural storms and disasters. But preparedness for something you KNOW is coming is a requisite, not something to think about..
