Thanks for the explanation Sir Wizard.
I have relatives that live in the Houston area as well as in Ft. Worth. My cousins and my father's sister whose kids are my cousins living in a couple different cities.

I'm really not trying to bash Texas. I am really just mazed that for some reason (from an engineer's viewpoint) why we as a whole can't figure out a better methodology to withstand the elements knowing in advance they will experience extremely high winds and gusts from the incoming hurricane winds..

no offense to my Texican friends intended.... Thumbs Up

"No offense to Texas as a whole but seems like those utilities in Texas aren't the sharpest knives in the drawers..."

Nah, my friend ... there are only three grids in the U.S. and Texas has its own ... and we like it that way, just fine. It is a highly reliable grid, especially given the brutal summers that we regularly endure. The Feds do everything they can to compromise our grid by forcing us to close down perfectly good plants and move towards far more unreliable "green energy" sources, but we're generating plenty of power in spite of them. In fact, when California experiences power shortages, to whom do you think they go begging for more power, eh? Yeah ... us.

Yeah, at the height of every summer, they tell us to conserve power usage during the afternoons and early evenings, but we always make it through - even with an ever exploding population. Yep, occasional disasters, like hurricanes, will cause problems, but you cannot control the weather and we always manage to get back up and running, pretty quickly. The biggest weather disaster of late was the winter ice storm of 2021 ... something that was so extremely rare, we were caught unprepared for its severity and duration. That was a once-in-one-hundred-year occurrence, but we are better prepared for that, now.

Should we and can we always be improving and upgrading our grid? Absolutely, but we seriously don't have too much to complain about here in Texas - especially if the Feds will quit interfering. If they don't want to give Houston any available funds for improving their system against hurricanes, then the Feds need to simply get the hell out of our way, period ... AND not bitch about gasoline prices when our refineries get temporarily knocked offline.
