This may be the most I've spent on a single auction item since the Bob Hope hat or the sterling silverware set. But I've been looking for a good price on a used rototiller for at least three years and have begun to feel some urgency. Generic tillers of about this size (208 cc) run $750 at Home Depot. Good brands are $1,000 and up.

This tiller is a name brand and looks to be in good shape. But does it work? That's the gamble whenever you buy at auction.

The price tag still on the unit (photo #4) is a promising sign. The owners must have had a yard sale this summer and the rototiller failed to sell, so... it goes to me. $170 + 15%.

Four commemorative NASA shadow sets. I didn't do my homework and rushed my bid on this thinking that it was just one shadow set (the first one) that included Jim Lovell's (Apollo 13) signature along with "Houston, we've had a problem." In fact, it's four sets and I very much doubt that Lovell's signature is an original. Oh well. As art produced en masse, the sets are nice but probably not $49 nice unless the medallion included with the Apollo 13 set is silver. It might be. They used to make 99.999% silver medallions a few decades ago. I've got some. I am sure that the original owner paid a LOT more than I did! (but that doesn't mean that I want to pay souvenir shop prices.) $49 + 15%.
