The time delay between the hypersonic snap of a bullet and the arrival of the 'bang' from the gun can ONLY be used to determine distance to shot origin IF AND ONLY IF the receiver is in the direct (or close to it) path of the bullet.

PROOF: If the receiver is at a perpendicular location from the 'path' of the bullet - the hypersonic snap and bang from the gun arrive at the same time. A hypersonic snap does NOT travel faster than the speed of sound. The snap travels at exactly the same speed as the 'bang'. THE LOCATION OF THE RECEIVER HAS TO BE KNOWN FOR ANY DECENT ANALYSIS. THIS IS NOT A ONE DIMENSIONAL PROBLEM. Time, Distance, Location, Angles are all involved, plus a whole lot of other factors.

Only the bullet is hypersonic - and its location is constantly changing.

Thus concludes Elementary acoustic analysis 101 - basic geometry.

I watched the 'analysis' videos - first three shots decent job - second half of analysis was crap, imo.

There is also the issue of 'amplitudes' and frequency spectra (ie. hz/khz) of the audio events that were completely ignored in the analysis - or greatly sidestepped by 'you can hear the differences'. Not acceptable for being 'definitive'.
