MonkeyTrots > Hypersonic missiles. A cold war 2.0 IS a major indicator that a WWW-III scenario is not only possible, but is also closer.
All true.
But, I can't help but notice that Cold War 1.0 did NOT end in a nuclear conflagration. And I'm still pretty sure neither China nor Russia really want a nuclear war.
As I see it. Given Russia and China's corrupt governments . . . Russia's inability to finance a lot of new 'military war toys' . . . I suspect that 'best case scenario' for Russia and China in a nuclear exchange is an end to civilization as we know it on this planet. 'Worst case scenario' for Russia and China would be for American and our allies anti-missile defenses prove to be up to the challenge, they score no hits, and our nuclear response destroys every Chinese and Russian major city.
Maybe I'm being optimistic. But if the alternative is to surrender Taiwan, UKraine, Phillippino fishing grounds, etc. etc. etc. to despotic dishonest lying deceitful regimes . . . Bombs Away.

The U.S. Navy and U.S. Army recently completed an end-to-end flight test of a hypersonic missile from the Pacific Missile Range Facility, Kauai, HI. The test provided data on the end-to-end performance of the Conventional Prompt Strike and Long Range Hypersonic Weapon All Up Round.
The test marks a step forward for the CPS and LRHW programs. "This flight test of the common hypersonic missile marks a milestone for our nation in the development of this capability," said Vice Adm.
