Then a nearby bear roared (the first one I've heard) and I decided that lying on the deck by myself, looking like a dead animal, might not be the best of plans.

I went out back to look at the stars. It's nice and dark - no moon as yet - with just a few clouds to the west. Corona Borealis looks the same as always so the big event hasn't happened yet.

Lying on the deck, I saw two shooting stars and SIX satellites, most of which I wouldn't have seen without my weak binoculars. One time, as I followed a satellite, it crossed the path of a second. That was cool.
