JD Vance claims that since during his military service Walz never served in a combat zone, that he should be told to refrain from mentioning his time in the military. Note that Walz served 24 year, raising to the rank of Command Sargent Major, the highest Army enlisted rank, and was deployed multiple times with his artillery unit, including a six-month assignment in Europe after 9/11 in support of 'Operation Enduring Freedom'. Vance served four-years in the Marine Corp, reaching the rank of Corporal. Vance was assigned to the public affairs office of his unit, and while he did do a six-month tour in Iraq, he himself admits that he was lucky as he never saw any sort of combat.
Doesn't Vance realize that dwelling on both his and Walz's admittedly admirable military service, that this could shine a light on Trump and his family's aversion to military service (only Trump's brother, Fred Jr, served in the military, which never sat well with their father and was part of what led to his later estrangement from the rest of the Trump family).
