Re: “SO basically, you are a hoarder?”
Let's just say that there's a fine line between prepping and hoarding. An important prepper principle, after all, is TWO IS ONE AND ONE IS NONE. (As a Marine, you should be familiar with it.) It pertains not only to critical inventory, but also to the means of accomplishing goals. When one fails, there must be an alternative.

So, for warmth, I've got a wood stove, a wood external boiler, a 100 gallon propane tank and (last resort) sleeping bags, as back ups in the event electricity and oil ever fail. For coolness I live in New Hampshire and I've got a whole-house fan. For food, I've got canned foods, dried grains, a garden and a gun to back up "grocery stores." I've got two homes in case one burns down (but I'll probably sell the smaller house one day, figuring that the 20' trailer is also something we could live in.) I've got two lawnmowers. A firearm and a crossbow. Spare glasses. Spare medication. Lots of toiletries. Extra bags of dog food. Spare toothbrushes. Plant seed. Water filters. Water. It goes on and on.

Trying to store spares of everything does result in an awful lot of excess...and I'm not even getting to my main vice: Books - which I can only justify as my main source of entertainment.

My #2 source of entertainment from now until the day I die will be going through all the boxes and getting rid of stuff. There's an awful lot, some of it boxed up twenty years ago. Hopefully none of it is food!
