Good points!

What jumped out to me is that while the moon does often get between us and the sun, the day that the sun eclipses the moon will be a very, very bad one for the moon . . . and for anyone still alive on the Earth when it happens. It's the Earth and the moon that "take turns" casting their shadows upon the other - so the author is flat-out wrong. And the moon's apparent size to us relative to the sun has nothing to do with it.

What if the Earth had multiple moons of various sizes as most of the planets do? It sometimes has in the past. Earth's other moons were small. And what if our oversized moon was actively receding? Would that be taken as a sign of God's declining influence? Receding, by the way, is actually happening to our moon - to the tune of about an inch and a half per year. Eventually there will be no more total eclipses of the sun.

To me, one of the more inspiring indicators of God’s possible existence is the sun and moon. Our sun is millions of times larger than the earth; our moon is ¼ the size of our planet. Yet, from our (temporary) seat in the cosmos, the sun and moon are so perfectly identical in height and width, they can literally take turns completely eclipsing the other.

Well De,
I can see why you found the author of this garbage disenchanting.

"The sun and the moon having the same apparent size is PROOF that a God MUST have created everything" ? ? ? I don't think so.

I think of myself as being an Agnostic. I can't prove there is no God but then any 'miracle' a True Believer might believe could also be explained by space aliens with super advanced technologies. To put it more bluntly 'They' can not undeniably prove there is a God.

I can 'see' in my minds eye how YUGE clouds of hydrogen and various dusts can come together to form galaxies, solar systems, planets, moons, etc. etc. etc.

I can 'see' in my minds eye how various long chain molecules could form and eventually evolve into the creatures we find ourselves surrounded with. Did God do it? Mother Nature? Evolution?

Isaac Asimov wrote a book titled 'The Tragedy of the Moon'. It's been a long time since I read it, but I do have it. If I remember correctly he postulated that without our oversized moon life might not have arisen on this planet.

But another problem I have with this author is that it appears (to me) that he believes a whole lot of people just have to believe the same way he thinks they do . . . and that just is not so.

Zim.
