Of all of the films that I've seen with James Earl Jones, the film I think I liked him the best in was a rather obscure one titled 'A Family Thing', released in 1996, where he played opposite Robert Duvall. One of the things that I remember in this film is that his character had a stutter, and I think this is the first time I ever heard him stutter on screen. This is significant because he grew-up with a serious stutter and it was only after a teacher encouraged him to write poetry, and then had him read his work in front of his classmates that he started to overcome this problem. He also discovered that by learning lines in a play, he could recite them without stuttering, which led to him changing his major in college from pre-med to drama.
