...she used a tested and approved technique of having a prepared answer to use on any question they asked. If they had asked her what the square root of 9 was the answer would have been the same. The answer let her get in her platitudes and talking points without giving the slightest clue as to an answer to the question that had been asked. She knew that the two hosts would not call her on it.

That actually is a good question.

Thinking about it ... and the only conclusion I get, is that she COULD NOT (and they could not) come up with ANY answers that would pass the smell test, or satisfy their focus groups.

Thus the pure avoidance and attack Trump route was chosen.

The best defense is a withering offense.

Had a rated chess master tell me once that he NEVER made defensive moves in a match.
