... but, inexplicably, Herbie felt the need to "white knight" for the Florida State football program - in spite of the fact that he correctly opined almost a year ago that Florida State had no business being in last year's NCAA football playoff.
Kirk Herbstreit Blasts 'Disrespect' of Florida State, Gets Laughed Off 'College GameDay' Set
FSU Lost to Memphis in Tallahassee Saturday to Fall to 0-3 This Season

Prominent college football and NFL analyst Kirk Herbstreit caped up for the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday, September 14, but ended up becoming the butt of the joke.
FSU began this season with a disastrous 0-2 start after losses to both Georgia Tech and Boston College leading into a matchup with Memphis this weekend. As a result, several hosts of ESPN's "College GameDay" -- namely Pat McAfee and Nick Saban -- picked the Tigers to defeat the Seminoles in Tallahassee.
Herbstreit, who picked Florida State to win the contest, took umbrage with what he characterized as his co-hosts' "disrespect" of a team that went undefeated during the 2023 campaign but missed out on a College Football Playoff berth, at least in part because of an injury to starting quarterback Jordan Travis late in the year.
"Don’t forget, this is Mike Norvell’s former team -- Memphis, before he came to Tallahassee” Herbstreit said. "I can’t believe all of the disrespect for Florida State. I apologize for that."
Herbstreit's comments were met with laughter and a rebuttal from McAfee, who responded rightly that there was no disrespect, as Memphis went on to beat Florida State 20-12 on Saturday afternoon.
Even host Desmond Howard, who actually agreed with Herbstreit's pick of the Seminoles to win the game, cackled loudly at Herbstreit's apology for his colleagues' so-called "disrespect" of the Florida State program.
FSU is now 0-3 this year after finishing last season on the business end of a blowout 63-3 loss at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs in the Capital One Orange Bowl.
The disrespect for Norvell and his staff at the university and among the team's fans may have grown so great so quickly over the past four outcomes that the FSU head coach could be looking for a new home yet again -- and doing so sooner rather than later.
DAMN, Herbie! What ... did Norvell promise to send some Florida State hotties to your hotel room for that embarrassing endorsement?!
