What, comedians only try to be funny when they're on camera?

...some of us try out our material on our families before we run over and post it on bob's.

Re: “Stewart wasn't saying this flippantly or trying to be funny in front of a camera ... this was backstage where he was trying (and failing miserably) to be serious.”
What, comedians only try to be funny when they're on camera? I doubt that.

I also doubt that Jon Stewart was serious when he suggested a "no shooting" policy. That would be too stupid, and he's a pretty smart guy. Most likely, he was just mixing humor into a serious conversation. Intelligent comedians can do that.

BUT... none of us were there. We don't know him and don't know how he operates off-camera. The author might be right. I just doubt it.
