Well, all I have to go by is this first-hand account from Kevin Dolak of The Hollywood Reporter that Stewart said it "matter of fact." I don't doubt that Stewart will say he was just being flip, but even if true, it was stupid and fell flat.

What, comedians only try to be funny when they're on camera? I doubt that.

I also doubt that Jon Stewart was serious when he suggested a "no shooting" policy. That would be too stupid, and he's a pretty smart guy. Most likely, he was just mixing humor into a serious conversation. Intelligent comedians can do that.

BUT... none of us were there. We don't know him and don't know how he operates off-camera. The author might be right. I just doubt it.
