Thanks for all that info! How were the ones your girlfriend grew? Do they taste like regular sweet potatoes?

I was reading that sweet potatoes can be grown in New Hampshire. However, they require far more time than they do in warmer climes. Only in the best of years do we have 180 growing days, and that's apparently what they take in our state.

Perhaps I could grow a few indoors in pots for their first couple of months, thereby starting them in March and giving myself a longer growing season.

Re: “Okinawan Sweet Potatoes”

Hmmmmm . . . My GirlFriend has grown purple sweet potatoes here in Virginia Beach.

Both Okinawa and Hawaii look to be a fair ways south of Va Beach. I don't know how they'd do up there in ice and snow land.

By the way, I think she bought the baby plants at our farmers market. (Either that or she bought the potatoes at an Asian store and let them sprout.)

Zim.
