It's nice that folks have hopes.

But I don't see the divisions going away. And certainly not by saying hopeful things.

The country is divided, in my opinion, because the constitutional model you have is excessively obstructive of change. And so politicians aren't easily able to experiment. And so you aren't able to try and also discard various ideas. And so problems fester.

The canary in the coal mine was slavery. Most everyone else got rid of it quicker and without a civil war. But neither the US political system nor the courts were able to stop it.

It's not that it's all bad. It's just that the speed limit is about 15 mph.

So I'm afraid division is not going to end. But having different ideas isn't inherently a bad thing. It's working out how to try them out and then to recognise the results for what they are that y'all need to be able to do. That's how you avoid the festering.

This is not a Trump-related post. You also need to find a way to exclude sociopaths from leadership, obviously.

If you get a chance the video is worth seeing.
He speaks as though you're at the table with him, sharing his reasoning, not lecturing.

"It doesn't have to be this way"

Those are the most important words in Bruce Springsteen's endorsement of Kamala Harris. "Perhaps not since the Civil War has this great country felt as politically, emotionally and spiritually divided as it does at this moment," Springsteen said in a web video. But "it doesn't have to be this way. The common values, the shared stories that make this a great and united nation, are waiting to be rediscovered and retold once again."
