Milton was expected to strengthen - but not THIS much. It's now a Category 5. It's also moved much closer to Mexican land.

It's curious that the NOAA text disagrees with the NOAA graphic ((160 mph -vs- 155 mph.) The explanation, though, is in their time stamps.

I think we can expect the edge of the Yucatan that's marked in red - an edge which spans at least 80 miles - to be scraped clean as Milton passes. The Northeast corner of the peninsula is extremely close to the resort city of Cancun, but before Milton gets there it may have headed out to sea again.

At 160 mph, Milton's winds have more than FOUR AND A HALF TIMES the force of a weak hurricane's.
