Decomposed > I bet you carry a smart phone. I don't. I'm not a Luddite. I choose my battles

Yep, I do have a smart phone. My Boss forced me to take a 'company phone' on vacation with me 'Just in Case' . . . Of course, my GirlFriend found it more useful . . . when she forces me to go shopping with her and I successfully manage to elude her she uses it to summon me.

I'm pretty sure I 'could' program a grocery list into it . . . . and it has alarm clock type features built into it . . . Maps - though I found out the internet would happily tell me where a particular bank branch was - only to find out it had changed names years before.

Probably the thing I use it for most often is as a timer. I set the timer to go ding ding ding when it is time to take the clothes out of the dryer.

Re: “Amazing. Surprising that you decided to rely on a device guaranteed to be controlled by the demoncrappers . . .”
I bet you carry a smart phone. I don't. I'm not a Luddite. I choose my battles based on whether the benefit derived exceeds the cost. In the case of an Echo, it does. In the case of a smart phone, it doesn't.

I will say this, though: I am careful of what I say in the Echo's presence. Even if it only listens when you speak its name, I have no way of knowing if it will always operate that way.
Re: “Me? I have found that a simple little pad of paper and a purple inked pen do a marvelous job of both reminder service and shopping list.”That doesn't work for me. I have to take medicines at certain times each day. Tonight, I have an auction I don't want to miss, with the first lot I care about starting at 8:39 tonight. I have a reminder set for 5 minutes ahead so that I don't have to sit there watching it.

I was once dead set against putting an echo in my house. I know others who were the same way. Those of us who gave it a try found it so extremely useful that giving it up wasn't even considered.
