My point, actually, is that a smartphone is at least as bad regarding privacy concerns as an Amazon Echo. I mean, the Echo only knows what it hears. Your smartphone knows where you've been, what you've said, who you've met with (if they were carrying one too) and WHEN you did these things. It has your documents, websites you've visited, e-mails, texts, photographs, etc. Much worse, in my opinion.

If I want to have a juicy conversation, I usually leave the room or unplug the echo. As long as I don't forget, it's not going to get much from me. Its attempts to snoop won't be successful unless I let them. And I can control myself, or so I think.

The truth is, none of these things are good. But I get value from the echo that make it worth the bother. Your girlfriend probably says the same about your smart phone / electronic leash.

Yep, I do have a smart phone. My Boss forced me to take a 'company phone' on vacation with me 'Just in Case' . . . Of course, my GirlFriend found it more useful . . . when she forces me to go shopping with her and I successfully manage to elude her she uses it to summon me.

I'm pretty sure I 'could' program a grocery list into it . . . . and it has alarm clock type features built into it . . . Maps - though I found out the internet would happily tell me where a particular bank branch was - only to find out it had changed names years before.

Probably the thing I use it for most often is as a timer. I set the timer to go ding ding ding when it is time to take the clothes out of the dryer.
