Re: “I hope De's valve replacement is working out well for him.. I was amazed what those brilliant heart doctors did for him! Am still amazed.”
I had my annual cardiology checkup on October 1st. I told the doctor I had nothing new to report... all's well. "So, do I need to continue seeing you annually?" He said, "Yes. It should be listened to once a year."

That said, there was no bad news. My heart is good and so is the valve.

I learned one new thing from him. He still remembered when I came to the hospital to have a stress test... when it wasn't yet known that I had a problem. He told me, "Yours was one of the . . . [pregnant pause] . . TEN most constricted valves I have ever seen."

He's my age. He's been a cardiologist for more than 30 years. And I had one of the worst? Wow. I must have been a lot closer to dropping dead than I previously knew.

But that's in the past. My heart has recently been thoroughly checked. All is well with it. At this point, it's YOUR heart that concerns me... and I truly hope you'll get many more years of service out of it. As I said earlier, the board takes on a flavor I'm not as fond of when you aren't here. I think it becomes GRITS-dominant.
