Hard to say . . without knowing your reading preferences.

HELLBURNER and RimRunners are science fiction and fall into an 'alternative reality' along with a number of other books. And I enjoyed all of those.

The one you mentioned in your posting was from a series I successfully managed to keep from being sucked into. (I think I have one from that series . . .)

Paladin is more of a fantasy type. Set in some sort of 'ancient China' where a young girl, scarred for life when her family got wiped out, manages to travel a long ways across the empire posing as a boy. She climbs a mountain where an old war hero is living a life of solitude. Killing bandits who might make the local villagers lives miserable and so the village sends things he needs up the mountain.

I found it to be a good read. Cherryh is an excellent author (in my opinion).
