Re: “...a feel, even if inaccurate, for the spoon's metal content and worth.”I was right that the spoon is big. 11 inches and 93 grams. (A Troy oz is 31 grams.) The spoon's bowl is 2.5 inches wide and 3 inches deep making it practically a ladle.

I don't know what the metal portion of the spoon weighs. My idea to weigh the bowl while supporting the wood handle off scale doesn't work. I get results varying from 30 grams to 66 grams depending on how the support is set.

Silver had a very good day, jumping almost 6.5% to close at $33.68. While that's far from its all time high, it did set a new long term high.

In related news, I bought a sterling silver spoon with a wooden handle at auction Thursday. My wife will be picking it up Saturday so I'll finally get to see how big it is. Spoons like this that aren't 100% sterling can't be assigned a weight by the auction house, so it's a bit of a gamble. But it looks to me to be fairly big... around 1 Troy oz of metal is my guess. With silver above $33/oz, my $12 purchase is bound to be a good deal.. As you can see, below, it's not a conventional spoon. I'll probably stick the "bowl" portion onto a scale while trying to have the handle supported off scale - just to get a feel, even if inaccurate, for the spoon's metal content and worth.
