Re: “To me, hard times is" ... "other such 'end of the world as we know it' scenarios.”I'm curious: Have you made preparations for any of the TEOTWAWKI scenarios you mentioned? I believe that you'll find it overwhelming. I'm terribly disappointed in how little I've done, though I've done more than anyone else I know. And I'm only trying to prep for dollar collapse.

Trying to prepare for other scenarios will 1) bankrupt a person and 2) drive him and everyone around him crazy.

Re: “Basically we differ on a completely different view of what 'hard times' means. To you, it seems that it is only the collapse of the US monetary/economic system. To me, hard times is the collapse of world economies - where NO currency retains it's 'value', such as would occur with wide ranging nuclear war, wide spread electromagnetic pulses (man made or solar), true global pandemics, and other such 'end of the world as we know it' scenarios.”More or less right. The only one I'm preparing for is the one I'm certain is going to happen.

Fortunately, some of the other scenarios involve the same preparations: Preserving and storing food, having a bugout location (or, in my case, living in it already), having a variety of goods with which to barter, getting to know the neighbors, learning how to live without most of the 'grid.'

Are you under the impression that P.M. is the only thing I'm recommending people acquire? If so, you haven't been on the board long enough. I've got a reputation here as a hoarder because there are so many things people need to have in quantity. I have a two-story barn that's practically bursting at the seams, largely with things I regard as 'essentials' (okay... also with books and 'junk.' My project for the rest of my life involves evaluating and perhaps throwing out much of what I've boxed up.)

Widespread nuclear war, by the way, is one scenario I'm not worrying about at all. Everyone in the world will be dead within a few years of its occurrence, so why worry about it?
