Re: “Top airline manufacturer Boeing dissolved its global diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) division amid significant financial losses”
Many years ago, my employer's personnelist chewed me out for not hiring enough non-asian minorities and not enough women. I responded that I was simply hiring the most skilled people I could from the applicants that she found for me. She said that that wasn't appropriate. I had to hire a qualified (not "most qualified") person from a pool of qualified people... while hiring minorities and women. (Bear in mind that I was running a computer department.)

It didn't go the way the personnelist hoped. From that point on, I wrote job specifications that were so detailed and complex that only extremely skilled applicants would qualify. No more vague job skills. Oddly enough, when I did that, the only qualified applicants she was able to find for me were white and asian men. Go figure. But now it took months to fill openings that I'd previously been able to fill in weeks - and everyone suffered, but mostly the personnelist who was then forced to explain to HER boss why she was failing to bring me minority and female applicants for my department. She took the heat; not me.

I knew there was a reason parts keep falling off Boeing airplanes and their space capsule could not be trusted to safely get astronauts down.

Problem-riddled Boeing axes entire diversity division
October 31, 2024

Top airline manufacturer Boeing dissolved its global diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) division amid significant financial losses, union strikes, and scrutiny over safety and production issues, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

The reorganization, which reassigned its DEI staff to Boeing’s employee experience division, reflects CEO Kelly Ortberg’s focus on consolidating operations as the company grapples with a number of problems, according to Bloomberg.

Sara Liang Bowen, who previously helmed Boeing’s DEI department, announced her departure on Thursday, Bloomberg reported. In a LinkedIn post, Bowen expressed pride in her team’s work, acknowledging both its challenges and accomplishments.
