Re: “This is long overdue”
Yes, but it won't go smoothly. Every government program has its Congressional backers... those whose states or constituents benefit disproportionately from the wasteful spending. I remember the fights that went on over military base closures. They raged for decades, with huge battles and massive studies launched over each one. I remember other cases where government programs couldn't be consolidated even though doing so made perfect sense, because each office closure was seen as a loss to a state... and to associated Congressmen.

This will be no different. Each program to be reduced or eliminated will involve a bloody battle. I doubt the president will often get his way - if only because his time in office ends in January, 2029. That's probably when the earliest of these program changes will occur.
Re: “Deficit spending ALWAYS ends up being a huge problem of how to pay it back which is why one should not start to engage init.”The federal government doesn't have that problem. It will monetize its debt, printing whatever it needs to pay the bills. Inflation is our debt's best friend, the dirty little secret that lets Congress continue spending without admitting that they are the ones behind the resultant price increases.

This is long overdue however, reigning in the spending must start with THE BUDGET. And when THAT is balanced and in fact needs to be shrunk by 7.5% for each year for the next 13 years to get it back to even, then we must have some hard line drawn that we cannot spend more than what we take in..

Deficit spending ALWAYS ends up being a huge problem of how to pay it back which is why one should not start to engage init. Trust me. I learned that from running a multi million dollar company of my own and before that someone else's.

The intentions to reduce the budget and pay back the DEBT are always admirable but never quite seem to happen because SOMETHING always comes up..

Most political types find it very easy to spend like there is no bottom.
