Hi clo,

Flooding in winter is the new normal.

We were cut off for a few hours as the road was flooded in one direction (the river went about 4 feet deep over the road) and we had two landslips in the other.

But when the rain abated the river quickly was contained within its banks. Flash floods are fairly normal here as when it rains heavily on the nearby hills, all the rainwater heads downhill into the river. We are maybe 50 feet above the usual channel so it would take a helluva flood to cause an issue. The problems are about 30 miles downstream where the water from here inundates the flatland and the cities that are built there. This house has survived longer than the USA and is at the top of a slope, so seems fairly safe.
