It's just cutting the US off from imports at reasonable prices. And it isn't as if US suppliers can substitute domestic supply for everything it is losing. Americans will have to deal with the pain of not having cheap stuff. Your fruit salad will be apples and grapes but fewer bananas and pineapples.
