I made the point in the build-up to Biden's win and so it proved. He was not a great supporter of America's economic relationship with the UK, while taking advantage of our military alliance when it suited him (Houthis, Israel etc). Not that we contribute on the same level as the US. But we give the US an internationalist figleaf.
A Trump presidency may have some benign repercussions for the UK.
Trump clearly hates the EU with a passion. Project 2025 explains that America should winkle the UK out of the orbit of the EU by doing a trade deal with us. We are in fact in quite an interesting position potentially to lever deals from both sides.
So, yes, Trump was and will be a disaster of a president, especially domestically. He'll do terrible damage to everyone. I've little doubt that he will leave NATO and to compensate, European countries will have to double their spending on defence (something I find worrying as well). But we may just be less badly affected than most.
