Ah, The New York Times.
It wouldn't be Christmas if the outlet with the tagline 'All the News That's Fit to Print' didn't continue to trash the holiday, because those icky Christians like it.
Two days ago, they published an interview with an author and historian who claims Jesus isn't really the Son of God, but the son of a Roman soldier who raped Mary.
Today, they want us all to know Jesus comes from a 'dysfunctional family':
Oli London (@OliLondonTV) ~ NY Times publishes opinion article on Christmas Eve claiming Jesus came from a ‘Dysfunctional Family.’
They chose to run this. On Christmas Eve.
They write:
But as the pastor pointed out, Jesus came down to us through broken families: “one generation begetting brokenness of another generation begetting brokenness of another generation begetting brokenness of another generation.” There were murderers, adulterers, prostitutes and people who committed incest, liars, schemers and idolaters.
Jesus may have been sinless, but those in his lineage were not.
Just as remarkable is that the Gospel of Matthew didn’t hide this troubled family history. According to Michael S. Keller, senior pastor at Redeemer Lincoln Square Church in New York: “These genealogies were an ancient type of résumé. It’s Jesus’ DNA — because your family, your lineage, was your résumé.”
So why was this material there in the first place? Perhaps it’s to show that what could have been a source of shame for Jesus wasn’t — and therefore that it need not be for those of us whose families and histories have shadow sides.
Ah, worry not ... humans continue to impotently rage (especially the bigoted haters of the Democrat Party and their propaganda outlets), but God laughs first ... last ... and every time in between.
All of Christ's "ancestors" through his mother, Mary, were human ... of course, they were sinners ... we're all sinners of the worst kind. But, that's the point. Christ is the only one who spent time on this earth absolutely sinless ... so that He could be a pure sacrifice to save the rest of us from the untold number of sins committed by humankind. Christ came to this world as a defenseless infant, not as the all-powerful, conquering King that He most certainly is, because He wanted us to come to Him through repentance, joy, faith, and love - not out of fear. In the Old Testament, to look upon God meant immediate physical death - because God was way too staggeringly awesome for the human mind and body to endure. But, Christ came in a lowly state so that we could peacefully look at Him square in the face and realize that He, as the Creator, knows this life and us better than anyone.
Yep ... Christ's "ancestors," all those He encountered during his days on earth, and everyone He seeks to save were and are dysfunctional, immoral, malevolent miscreants and worse, BUT He overcame all of that. THAT is the point.
