In California, 87% of fire departments are either all volunteer or have some volunteers13. There are 242 fire departments that are 100% volunteer, 221 that are mostly volunteer (1 to 50% paid), and 138 that are mostly paid but have a few volunteer/paid call.
Apparently defunding the fire departments are as big an agenda item as defunding the cops.
