Interim D.C. U.S. attorney fires more than two dozen Jan. 6 prosecutors who helped investigate the Capitol riot

U.S. Attorney Edward Martin, who was appointed on an acting basis 11 days ago by President Donald Trump, has been a vehement critic of riot prosecutions. The employees were hired to career positions after serving under special or short-term status as the office surged to manage nearly 1,600 prosecutions after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. The fired prosecutors were all under probationary periods during which they can be dismissed without recourse.
