This is my opinion.

I do not believe the pilots were the problem here.

If the Air Traffic Controllers had been doing the job they were supposed to be doing - - There were two vehicles involved in the collision. Either one of which could have been re-directed so as to avoid the collision.

An article I recently read said the night before there was a near collision between a helicopter and an airplane. And that the airplane had had to climb to avoid the helicopter, then 'go around' and land.

I believe MonkeyTrots reading on 'what happened' was an air traffic controller ordered the plane to change to a different runway - putting the plane on a collision course with the chopper. If that was the case then obviously the air traffic controller was at fault.

But, irregardless the most important part of the air traffic controllers job is to keep aircraft from colliding with each other. And they obviously failed.
